LOCUM VACANCIES

Mackay Division of General Practice: Working in Mackay

The Mackay Division of General Practice is a part of a national not for profit organisation that is government funded that supports GPs and General Practice. We have a highly specialised approach to private health sector issues relating to general practice. Our organisation brings years of industry expertise together to provide professional support, advice and resources to General Practice. We are in the unique position to understand the challenges and skills required to work as a GP, Practice Nurse or Practice Manager.

MDGP has successfully operated a locum service in the region for the past eight years providing quality locums for our general practices. MDGP are committed to promoting our region to other doctors as a great place to work where they will be supported in their new working environment. We currently have two locums successfully working for the service.

The Locum Support GP Dr Rachel Bidgood assists with induction and support for locums and provides ongoing advice for the locum program. MDGP provide all administration for the service and support for the locums professional and personal requirements.

The current GP shortage is adversely affecting practices in the region. With low doctor numbers our plans to recruit as many doctors as possible and will continue to consult with State and Federal Departments to increase the locum service. Our goal is be able to provide adequate relief to meet most requests for holidays, training, study leave and illness for all our GPs.

Expression of interest can be taken up to 12 months in advance. All booking s for placements are recorded and held on file with placement allocations made approximately 3 month in advanced. In the event of more than one practice requesting locums for the same period, the allocations are made on priority system. If you have any inquiries or would like to place a booking for the Locum Service please contact Val Bielenberg MDGP on (07) 49534491 or by .

TESTIMONIAL

Testimonial from Dr Elizabeth Repplier, visiting locum to Mackay

"Working for the Mackay Division of General Practice has turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. The division has warmly welcomed my family and myself and has prepared me well to work in a variety of clinical settings. I had a lot to learn having come from the US but have found all of the GPs to be friendly, helpful and encouraging. One of the best aspects of being a locum through the division is spending time at multiple outpatient sites in the region. The need is great and the patients are truly appreciative. But best of all is the Mackay region itself with tropical islands, blue water, rainforests, gem fields and kind people. I will return home rejuvenated with a fresh perspective of medicine and our children will have had the experience of a lifetime".
