ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES
We?re developing a dynamic one stop Allied Health Centre in Mackay.
Although we already provide 1000s of allied health patient sessions each year, the Division knows people living in the region need improved access to quality allied health services. MDGP plans to build a comprehensive Centre comprising an expanded range of health disciplines. Many local people have already seen one of the Divisions psychologists or a dietitian, and in the future local people will have a choice of physiotherapy, podiatry, speech pathology and Mental Health Nurse services, just to name a few.
Having all these services under the one roof will provide both patients with great benefits, and make it easier for General Practices and organizations that need to arrange access to total allied health care for their clients.
As well as continuing to work with clients under the management of their GP for chronic and complex conditions that are covered by funding provided by the Australian Government, our comprehensive service will also be available to other organizations who require employee evaluations prior to commencing and also a comprehensive rehabilitation plan to return existing workers back to their positions. Our Services are client focused with the emphasis on prevention and early intervention, as well as improving the quality of life for people affected by short or long term health conditions.
The MDGP Allied Health Service currently provides the following:
- Rural Dietetic Services provide dietitian services for people living in rural areas. Find out more » here
- Psychology Services - aim to improve the access of patients to counselling services in the region. Psychology services are provided to adults, teenagers, and children. More details are available » here
- Mental Health Nurse - GPs and private Psychiatrists can refer patients who have acute or chronic mental health problems and are at risk hospitalisation or have already been in hospital and require further maintenance care. More details are available » here
